Méthode Cap Classique of 81% Chardonnay and 19% Pinot Noir with extended maturation time in the bottle, making it one of South Africa's only sparkling wines to spend more than 60 months on the lees. Ten percent reserve wine fermented in New French oak barriques was used for richness and complexity.

Stony Brook Bailey MCC 2012

Méthode Cap Classique of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir grapes from our farm. There was brief skin contact with the Pinot Noir grapes at pressing to give a light salmon pink colour to the juice. After primary fermentation, the wine was blended and bottled to begin secondary fermentation. Each bottle then spent 40 months on the lees to develop richness and complexity before degorgement.

Stony Brook Ghost Gum White 2015

Ghost Gum White 2015


After the success of the 2014 vintage, the Ghost Gum White has remained an enticing combination of 56% Chardonnay and 44% Semillon. An unusual blend that captures the essence of Stony Brook's philosophy by only utilising the best grapes from the estate. Both Chardonnay and Semillon have a long history within Franschhoek and the two grapes combine to create a wine with lovely balance and texture. Both varieties were barrel-fermented and aged in 50% new oak - mostly French, with 2 small Eastern European barrels used for a portion of the Semillon.

A very lively wine with passion fruit and guava on the nose, followed by a citrus burst on the palate and intense concentration. Our Sauvignon Blanc is fantastic on its own as well as being the perfect accompaniment to fresh, light, summer dishes.

Stony Brook The 'J' 2015

The 'J' 2015


This is a fragrant blend of equal parts Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay with 8% Semillon. Only the Semillon and a small portion of the Chardonnay were barrel-fermented and matured for eleven months in second-fill French oak barriques. The Sauvigon Blanc and Viognier are unwooded which gives a wonderful crisp, citrus freshness to the blend. This wine has great balance with rich layers of aromatic floral spice and butterscotch, countered by a touch of sweetness from the Viognier and bright acidity from the Sauvignon Blanc. The palate is creamy and silky, with a long textured finish, while the wood component adds a delicate hint of hazelnuts. A wonderful wine to serve with Thai food, or any dish that contains ginger and a touch of chilli.

Stony Brook Ovidius 2013

Ovidius 2013


The first vintage of Tempranillo from Stony Brook shows great promise. The grapes were harvested at 25 degrees Balling in the first week of February. The beautifully healthy fruit was hand-sorted and lightly crushed before a 7-day-long cold-soak to extract tannin and colour from the grapes. The juice was inoculated with a slow-fermenting yeast and pressed off at dryness. After settling, the wine was taken to barrel for wild malolactic fermentation and maturation. 30% new and 70% second-fill, 225 litre French oak barrels were used to mature this wine for 25 months before bottling.

Stony Brook Syrah Reserve 2012

This wine is truly old-world in style, matured for 30 months in second-and-third-fill French oak barriques. The grapes all come from a very special, low-yielding block on our farm, exhibiting classic white pepper aromatics. We harvested when the grapes were very ripe, accentuating the true character of shiraz. There is a definite meaty, savoury element to the wine, tied together with soft, ripe tannins on the palate. The wine is very big and robust, showcasing our traditional winemaking practices and our focus on full-bodied, concentrated red wines. Enjoy with rich, flavourful dishes such as belly of pork or Boeuf Bourguignon.

Stony Brook The Max 2013

The Max 2013


This wine, like its namesake, our 12-year-old Jack Russel, has serious attitude and as was recently pointed out to us, it is now also full-bodied! The idea behind The Max is to create a wine that has huge ageing potential as well as round, rich flavours that allow the wine to be enjoyed in its youth. It is a Bordeaux-style blend, made up of 46% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Malbec and 7% Petit Verdot. All of the components were picked at full ripeness to ensure that the tannins, while firm and grippy, are also round and moreish. The four varieties were matured in a combination of 50% new and 50% second-fill French oak barriques for 28 months before blending and bottling.

Stony Brook Ghost Gum Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

2012 was one of the best vintages that we've seen at Stony Brook, with the Ghost Gum typifying the harvest. This single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was pruned to produce extremely small volumes of exceptionally concentrated grapes. The bunches were harvested by hand at full ripeness, fermented in stainless steel and transferred into new French oak barriques for a total of 32 months.

Stony Brook SMV 2013

SMV 2013


The Shiraz and Viognier were harvested together and co-fermented in second and third-fill French oak barriques. The Mourvèdre was picked very ripe and, after fermentation, both components of the wine spent 28 months in wood and were blended two weeks before bottling. All of the grapes were from our estate. Initially, the nose of the wine offers minerality and freshly ground herbs, evolving in to dark chocolate and coffee beans, with a subtle suggestion of red berries. On the palate, the wine shows smooth, rich tannins which sing in perfect harmony with the acidity. The mid-palate is robust and fleshy, while the flinty, savoury finish begs another sip. Our SMV is the perfect pairing with slow-cooked winter foods like roast pork or Ossobuco.

Stony Brook Pinot Noir 2015

Our Pinot Noir comes from the smallest vineyard on the farm - a 1 hectare block that yields only enough for a few barrels every year. The grapes were destemmed and fermented at 15 degrees Celcius in stainless steel. After dryness, the wine was matured in 40% new French oak for 14 months.

This is 100% Viognier. We left the bunches on the vines to dry naturally, concentrating the fruit, sugar and acid. The juice was barrel-fermented over a period of 6 months and then matured for a further 18 months in the barriques.

Mourvèdre 2013


Warm spicy aromas merging with delicious ripe dark cherries, a hint of chocolate and mocha smokiness make the nose of this wine hugely appealing. Characteristic hints of white pepper, nutmeg and vanilla follow through onto the palate where they combine with concentrated sweet red fruit. Big, ripe juicy tannins give the wine excellent structure and aging potential.

This Sauvignon Blanc was left on the lees to extract a maximum of flavour and then matured in 3rd fill French oak barriques for 12 months. This wine is a great accompaniment to food with wonderful Sauvignon freshness and hints of toast, nuts and citrus.

Stony Brook White Ash Bluff Sauvignon Blanc 2011

White Ash Bluff Sauvignon Blanc 2011


This Sauvignon Blanc has been made from grapes grown on a single vineyard located on the north bank of Marlborough's Awatere Valley. On the nose smoky notes mingle with currants & herbal notes, along with hints of lychee. The palate is defined by layers of flavor that subtly unfold. Touches of dried herbs and a chalky minerality and appear as this wine opens up. It is all held together by a lovely acidity that glides through the wine giving it great structure & persistence of flavour.
